INEOS and PLASTIC ENERGY have announced today they will work together on the construction of a new plastic recycling plant. The new facility is due to start commercial production in end-2023.

An advanced recycling technology converts plastic waste back into its basic molecules. The resulting material is used at INEOS crackers to replace traditional raw materials derived from oil.

The first trials of PLASTIC ENERGY’s current advanced recycling process have been completed. The new raw material has been successfully converted into a virgin polymer at INEOS cracker at Cologne, Germany. The plastics made from this trial will be used by selected customers and brands now to demonstrate the benefits of the process.

PLASTIC ENERGY’s patented technology called Thermal Anaerobic Conversion (TAC) transforms previously unrecyclable plastic waste into TACOIL. This new recycled raw material can be used by many INEOS sites to produce virgin plastic for production of medical devices, food packaging, lightweight automotive parts and pipes for safe water transport.

Advanced recycling makes it possible to produce the final goods with the specifications identical to those of a virgin material. It removes all the contamination so that the resulting polymers can be used in food and medical packaging where safety standards require the highest level of the product purity.
