BD plant under construction in Kazakhstan 22 Nov 2022 / ChemCourier. Synthetic Rubber Monthly / ChemCourier. Butadiene&C4s Weekly / production

The construction of a proposed plant of Butadiene LLP, a joint venture between KazMunayGaz and Tatneft, began on 2—3 November 2022. Design works are underway, with technology licensers being involved. According to the project plan, Butadiene LLP also signed a contract with Tengizshevroil for the annual butane supplies of 380,000 t.

Reminder: the complex is located in the Karabatan area of a special economic zone 43 km away from Atyrau, Kazakhstan. The project is supposed to produce styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS), styrene-butadiene rubber (a part is intended for a tyre plant in Qaraghandy Region), butadiene, isobutane-isobutylene fraction (feedstock for production of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), butyl rubber, isoprene and alkylate) and MTBE (a fuel additive to increase the octane number). The project to produce butadiene rubber in Atyrau Region is scheduled for completion in 2025. Its design capacity is 186,000 tpy of rubber and 170,000 tpy of isobutane. The output will be supplied to a tyre plant in Qaraghandy Region and overseas customers in Europe, Russia, China, Turkey and other countries.
