Saudi Arabia’s Advanced Petrochemical has announced building of a new propane dehydrogenation (PHD) unit and polypropylene plant in Al Jubail in 2021. The company has negotiated a SAR 3 billion ($800 million) eight-year loan with the Saudi International Development Fund (SIDF). Another 25% of the project construction will be financed by shareholders and the rest by commercial lenders.
The PDH plant will have the annual propylene and PP capacity of 843,000 t and 800,000 t, respectively, according to the company’s representatives. The construction of both facilities is set to start in 2021 and the first commercial output is expected in H2 2024.
Currently, Advanced Petrochemical can yearly make 455,000 t of propylene and 480,000 t of polypropylene in total in Al Jubail.
