Demand for polyethylene has been weak because market players are celebrating the end of Ramadan on 1—10 June in Turkey. Middle Eastern and some Asian suppliers have also been absent from the market during the holiday. ‘All players took leaves for a week and some of them for even two,’ a Turkey-based trader has commented. PE availability has been adequate in the country in this period.
Prices have been stable in an inactive market. Injection, blow-moulding and film HDPE has cost $1,050—1,080/t CFR, $1,100—1,140/t CFR and $1,100—1,140/t CFR, respectively, this week. LDPE and LLDPE has been quoted at $1,060—1,080/t CFR and $1,050—1,060/t CFR Turkey respectively.
Market players will come back to work next week when low PE demand may push prices down. HDPE and LDPE/LLDPE prices are expected to lose $10/t and $5/t, respectively, in June. PE supply will match demand in Turkey.
