Chem-Courier data

• Chinese PE market players have resumed activity after the Labour Day holidays from May 1—5;

• Restocking efforts have become noticable with prices moving multidirectionally;

• Injection- and blow-moulding HDPE has appreciated by $5/t to $910—950/t CFR China and $910—960/t CFR China;

• In contrast, film grade HDPE prices faced downward pressure due to cheaper import offers from Qatar (QAPCO). Film HDPE has depreciated by $5/t to $940—1,000/t CFR China;

• Traders were actively seeking Qatari HDPE film cargoes at competitive price levels;

• South Korean (KPIC) film HDPE has been on offer at $990/t CFR China;

• Meanwhile, film grade LDPE prices have appreciated amid tightening supply and restocking demand, rising by $10/t to $1,020—1,075/t CFR China;

• SABIC has reportedly sold film LDPE at $1,075/t CFR China, whereas Qatari film LDPE has been available at $1,065/t CFR China in the market;

• The most actively traded LLDPE futures for July delivery have gone CNY 44/t (almost $6/t) down week on week to CNY 8,446/t (almost $1,169/t) EXW on China’s Dalian Commodity Exchange this Thursday;

• Firming feedstock expenses put pressure on producers’ margins, making it challenging to decrease PE prices even with low demand

It is anticipated that Chinese PE demand will be lower, as players restocked during this week. PE prices are likely to be stable due to muted demand. Supply will be sufficient.
